Every business needs business stationery. Letterheads, compliments slips and business cards – whether you print them from your desktop printer or have them professionally printed, it’s important to have these items to give your business a professional edge.
Ok, so letterheads might not sell for you in the way that a glossy brochure or website will. But well designed, well printed letterheads will mark you out as someone who is serious about their business.
What you should know about letterheads and compliments slips
• Letterheads usually contain your company name, address, telephone number, website and a generic email address. They don’t usually have your mobile number or personal email address on there.
• If you’re a limited company then you must put your company number and registered office on your letterhead by law
• Similarly if you’re a partnership or sole trader this detail needs to go on there too
• If you’re VAT registered then it makes sense to have your VAT number on your letterhead as you must put it on there when you’re invoicing so printing it on at the start saves you a lot of time and hassle in the long run
• Compliments slips usually have your contact details on but not the VAT number or legal entity details
How to get the best out of your stationery
• Ideally have your letterheads and compliments slips professionally printed – even though they’re not marketing tools they still create important impressions in your customer’s minds
• If you really don’t use many printed letterheads in today’s email age, still have them professionally designed so that when you do print them off from your home printer they at least look professional
• Print a colour on the back of your stationery – makes a fabulous impact and really makes you stand out from the crowd!
• Don’t use fonts any larger than 9pt for your contact details
• Keep all the legal info away from the contact details and preferably in a smaller font
