When I started blogging I have to be honest, I was a little bit excited, a little bit terrified! How on earth was I going to find the time and inspiration to write about something new several times a week? I’m now six months into my blog and I think I’ve discovered some of the secrets to finding inspiration on a daily basis.
My blogging mentor Karen Skidmore encourages people to write topics down onto an outlook calendar in this post, which is a great way of reassuring yourself that there really is enough to write about. It’s also a great way to commit to getting your blogging done. For the ultra organised amongst us I can see that this will work a treat. I have to be honest, I’m a little more of the ‘wing it’ school than that. So let me share what works for me.
I have a very client facing role. In an average day I’ll be working with two to four individual clients on their branding or marketing, or I might be running a workshop. And I use the feedback from these clients to inspire my blog topics. Things that seem absolutely obvious to me often strike a chord with a client because either no one’s ever told them that before, or because they knew about it and just needed reminding. Whatever the scenario, I often think, well if that’s useful to a client then hopefully it’ll be useful to my blog audience, and I’ll write about it.
I try to keep things short and to the point (not easy when you like to chat) and try to break massive topics down – it gives me more to write about and makes things easier to digest if you’re the reader.
So what works for you, if you’re a blogger how often do you post and how does inspiration strike?
