So earlier this evening I finally hit “publish” on my post on our initial brainstorming of the Bisley Shooting Ground rebrand. I’ve always wanted to give you sneak peeks of a logo before we start the polished Mac work, but it always feels a little unfair on the client, so as soon as I knew that Shirley and the team from Bisley were delighted with the concepts I knew I could safely show you the beginning of the process.
Today Caroline and Chloe had the nailbiting task of presenting our four logo designs to the team from Bisley Shooting Ground before running a mood board session to help them take the online and printed collateral further.
Now I have a very clear favourite, but I will do my very best to remain unbiased. The Bisley team have two favourites currently, so your feedback would be very much appreciated.
Concept One

This simple, stylish and evocative logo was inspired by the Ground’s mascot, Oscar, the terrier. It exudes class, confidence and country but at the same time it’s beautifully understated. Chloe had a lot of fun researching the dog’s breed and illustrating him.
And here’s option one in context.
Concept Two
This upmarket and elegant logo takes inspiration from the shape of the cartridges and the intricate patterns on the guns. The stylish illustration is a nod to the heritage of the Ground’s lodge – a Victorian hunting lodge from the 1850’s.
Concept Three
The decorative B marks the idea of a well established ground that is a leader in it’s field. The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed the development of this one from Ian’s initial sketch in our brainstorming. He went away following the session and re-drew in much more detail and then Chloe re-rendered the letter on the mac.
Concept Four
Less of a concept and more of an evolution. I loved the “feel” of the original logo from Bisley Shooting Ground. It fitted perfectly with the colonial building and the characterful and warm environment. I was keen that we recreate that original logo in some form, if nothing else, as a bit of a control experiment. I’m not sure that it holds it’s own next to the others, but it’s good to see it. This is a bit of a bonus design as we’ll usually only design three concepts…
And in context…
So I have a clear favourite, but how do you feel about them? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Concept 1
I actually love no 4, but can see that it might be too colonial, – not keen on no 3, although Ian’s B is lovely. I think no 2 for me (but i’m not a doggy person and most shooting people probably are)
I would go for number two …
4 looks a little too “Narnia” for me …
3 just doesn’t seem to fit, despite the nice B
and 1 feels too ‘corporate’
Deffo Number Two
Love number 1 and 2 equally. Love the B in 3 but the logo as a whole is weaker. Would love more info on the Bisley Shooting Ground brief to you so we could understand more about their brand and what they are trying to communicate. Great work though, can tell a lot has gone into it. Well done.
1 first then 3 love the dog
Thanks Liz. That’s my fave!
Thank you Sara. Yes, the Ground’s preference is definitely for 1 or 2… As far as the brief is concerned the main essence was that Bisley have one of the best grounds in the country with some of the best instructors, but it was key that there was discretion and not too much shouting. Bisley Shooting Ground are also incredibly warm and approachable – whatever car you drive! And it was about having fun outdoors… Hope that helps.
Thanks Matt. Corporate???
I love the understated elegance and nod to the outdoors…
Thank you Claire. Good points. Bisley is about Clay Pigeon Shooting rather than game, but a lot of game shooters will come to practice their game shooting, and the dog is just a gorgeous nod to their very much loved mascot.
thanks Tom. My fave too…
2 – if the squiggle was on a gun cartridge, it would make much more sense.
Otherwise 1, but my immediate though is dogs and not shooting.
thanks Ellis. I love the fact that it aludes to the idea of being a cartridge without being too cluttered but some great points, thank you.
Hi Fiona & Team
I love no 4, but (even though I’ve never been to Bisley) I think no 2 is best for this one. I purposefully have skipped over the other comments before posting my reply…now on tenterhooks to see if anyone agrees with me
Denise
number one all the way! great stuff.
Thank you Denise. No 2 is lovely too… very fitting
Thanks Sarah. Loving No 1 myself…
